Due to complaints that the voice of OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4o chatbot, “Sky,” resembled actress Scarlett Johansson’s in the film “Her,” the chatbot’s voice option was removed.
There are five voices available for users to communicate with, and “Sky” is one of them.
The voice was not intended to sound like Scarlett Johansson, according to OpenAI. The business claimed that it belonged to a different actress, though.
In response to consumer concerns, the business chose to employ the voice to halt. Additionally, OpenAI stated that it is developing new speech options to better cater to the wide range of interests and tastes of its customers.
The AI startup made it clear that it is paying voice actors a lot of money. It stated that in order to cast and direct voice talent, it collaborates with professionals in the field.
Some voice actors are concerned that AI voice generators would replace them, which is a concern raised by the dispute around AI’s potential effects on creative communities. In response to these worries, OpenAI stated that it is working to help the voice sector.
The gap in Sky’s voice, nevertheless, indicates that fans will not put up with overt voice imitations of well-known celebrities.
Meanwhile, a few people spoke up in support of Sky’s voice actor, who is no longer able to earn a living from her employment. Some fans think that OpenAI went too far and hurt the voice actor that plays Sky.
It is unclear if the voice will alter or if it will become available once more in the wake of the company’s decision.
