Some Chrome extensions can cause your browser to load more slowly, even if they’re a great way to enhance your online experience.
Five thousand extensions were analyzed by DebugBear researchers to see how they affected Google Chrome.
According to Tech Radar, their research suggests that some might be responsible for delayed page loads, albeit this varies according on the data processing technique.
VPNs are the worst extension out there, according to the research report, because they “route traffic through an intermediary server”.
Long load times were also caused by other extensions, like Klarna Pay Later and Trancy AI Subtitles. Extensions that execute their code “after the page has loaded” have also been shown to have an effect on Chrome, but presumably less so.
Moreover, the research notes that an extension may still result in sluggish page interactions even in the absence of delayed load times.
This implies that a website’s clickthrough rate may feel sluggish. It was discovered that there is a “160 millisecond delay when clicking on random content like headings” added by Avira Password Manager.
You could get a better surfing experience by installing an adblocker. Ad-heavy websites can slow down browser performance; nevertheless, DebugBear discovered that installing an adblocker on your PC can actually increase computer performance.
