A strange surgeon states that the ground-breaking operation of transplanting the head of a terminally ill man onto a recently deceased donor is near in the future.
To criticise the work of Italian neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero, many medical experts have weighed.
Some of them include bioethicist Paul Root Wolpe of Emory University in the US, who told Daily Star that Canavero’s so-called HEAVEN treatment “Walks a fine line between medical care and murder.”
The planned dangerous treatment is intended to be carried out on Valery Spiridonov, a Russian computer scientist who has a rare condition that causes muscle atrophy.
Due to legal issues in the US, Spiridonov’s life saw two significant upheavals.
According to podcaster Joe Scott, “Amazing things happened while Valery was waiting.” First and foremost, his illness stopped worsening and his body stabilized. He had sort of learned to live with it, but not really. Secondly, the guy tied the knot. Anastasya Panfilova was the woman he met; they fell in love and were married.”
Canavero has not given up on his studies in spite of the obstacle. He moved to China in 2017 and began working with Chinese surgeon Dr. Xiaoping Ren, performing his first “successful” head transplant.
