At least four dead, dozens wounded after devastating tornado hits Iowa town

Government officials said on Wednesday that a tornado that struck a small Iowan town on Tuesday caused extensive damage, leaving at least four people dead and 35 injured.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety, there may be additional injuries, so they are still obtaining information from the destroyed town.

Tuesday afternoon, the tornado tore over the state of Iowa. It devastated a large number of automobiles, houses, and trees in the 2,000-person community of Greenfield. Big wind turbines close to the town were also destroyed by the tornado. Rescue crews are currently looking for survivors beneath massive piles of debris to ensure sure no one else is trapped.

Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Alex Dinkla stated, “As far as we’re looking to be sure all residents are accounted for, it’s still a search mission.”

People rummaged among the wreckage of their homes, searching for their possessions. Kimberly Ergish, a resident of Greenfield, and her husband were upset as they stood on the area that had held their house. There wasn’t much left, so they searched for family photos and other objects that might be salvaged.

“We can’t save most of it,” she remarked. “Nevertheless, we’ll take what we can.”

“I would assume that it didn’t happen if it weren’t for all the bumps, bruises, and achy bones,” the woman remarked.

A automobile accident near Corning, Iowa claimed the life of a woman. According to the Adams County Sheriff’s office, her car was blown off the road. Her age and name are still unknown. On Tuesday, 23 tornadoes were reported to the National Weather Service. There was one in Wisconsin and one in Minnesota, but the majority were in Iowa.

“Debris was airborne for thousands of feet before landing in other counties distant from Greenfield. That’s proof of how powerful and lethal this tornado was, according to Chief Meteorologist Jon Porter of AccuWeather.
