KARACHI: During Pakistan’s tour to England prior to the World Cup, fast bowler Shaheen Afridi and batting coach Muhammad Yousuf got into intense confrontations.
It was revealed a day after Lahore media said coaches and management had protested to the chairman of the PCB about Shaheen’s behavior on the most recent trip that Afridi had actually gotten into a fierce argument with Yousuf but had later apologized to him.
The administration of the Pakistan cricket team has confirmed to Geo News through many sources that the problem was “heat-of-the-moment,” quickly resolved, and unreportable.
Recalling the incident, a source told Geo News that Mohammad Yousuf, the team’s batting coach on their tour of Ireland and England, had gestured towards Afridi’s no-balls as he was bowling in the nets at Headingly.
Shaheen became enraged after being called out for bowling no-balls multiple times, and this is when it began.
“Yousuf should mind his own business and let Shaheen do what he was doing,” a source stated, adding that Yousuf replied to Shaheen by stating that he was a coach and doing his Job.
Later, after Shaheen Afridi had admitted his error and apologized to the former batting icon, senior manager Wahab Riaz had chastised him for his attitude.
When questioned about why it wasn’t reported to the PCB, the source responded, “This was nothing more than routine case of heat-of-the-moment, so the chapter was closed there and then.”
Shaheen’s behavior with coaches and management over the recent tours was reportedly problematic, according to reports on Wednesday. When questioned, the insider stated he was unaware of any other incidents involving Shaheen Afridi.
“You know, these little, intense arguments happen when you’re on tour for months; these are normal occurrences. As far as I know, nothing significant occurred that called for harsh punishment against anyone.”
