Prior to the Champions Trophy in 2025, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has suggested to the International Cricket Council (ICC) that it hold a youth tri-series with Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and that it hold bilateral white-ball series with South Africa and New Zealand.
While in Colombo for the annual board meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the CEO, Naseeb Khan, and Chairman of the All- Cricket Board, Mirwais Ashraf, met with representatives from Cricket West Indies, Cricket South Africa, and Cricket New Zealand to explore the prospects of holding a white-ball series prior to the Champions Trophy in 2025.
The ACB announced in a news release that “Mr. Mirwais Ashraf, Chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, and Mr. Naseeb Khan, CEO, attended the ICC Board Meeting which was held this week in Sri Lanka and was attended by representatives from other member countries.”
The Afghanistan Cricket Board’s recent accomplishments, ongoing initiatives, and future goals were given by the organization’s leadership during the meeting. Ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, they also had talks regarding possible white-ball bilateral cricket with representatives from Cricket South Africa, Cricket New Zealand, and Cricket West Indies.
A team tour to Zimbabwe and Bangladesh as well as the potential for a youth tri-series versus Pakistan and the United Arab Emiratesโthe exact dates and locations of which need to be determinedโwere also discussed.
