Sher Afzal Marwat, the head of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was detained by the Islamabad Police on Thursday but was later freed, according to police sources.
Marwat was taken into custody close to Tarnol, the location of a planned gathering by PTI employees. Additionally, there were rumors of arrests at Express Chowk.
Marwat was relocated by the police to the Golra police station. Later in the day, though, an Islamabad Police spokesman verified his release.
A widely shared video shows Marwat and his friends fighting with police officers before to his detention. The video shows people retaliating against the cops by pushing them and calling them names.
In the meantime, PTI has rescheduled its scheduled Islamabad protest, which was originally scheduled for today, until September 8.
Citing security concerns, the district administration had already revoked the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the event. Since then, authorization for the rescheduled rally has been given by the administration.
