All ambitious young witches and wizards are invited! The popular trio of Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, and Harry Potter will soon be portrayed by performers from the next generation, according to HBO, which has officially opened casting for the ‘Harry Potter’ television series.
Children who live in the UK or Ireland who will be between the ages of 9 and 11 in April 2025 are the only ones targeted by the casting call. HBO is noteworthy for emphasizing its dedication to inclusive casting, guaranteeing that all gifted people, regardless of background, get an equal chance to try out.
This commitment to inclusivity comes after the franchise was criticized for creator J.K. Rowling’s divisive opinions on transgender rights. The original Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe, on the other hand, has been a vocal supporter of the trans community.
One member of the original cast, Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy), has indicated interest in coming back, though he has hinted that his involvement would come with a large price tag. Meanwhile, searches are underway to find the new Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
Filming on the “Harry Potter” series is scheduled to start early in 2019. Francesca Gardiner, the producer of “Succession,” will be leading the production. Another ‘Succession’ alum, Mark Mylod, will serve as director and writer. Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling’s Bronte Film collaborated on the project.
