Justin Timberlake scores small win in DWI case

TMZ claims that prosecutors and Timberlake’s attorney, Edward Burke Jr., negotiated the deal, which a court authorized. The original DWI allegation has been withdrawn, and Timberlake has instead pleaded to Driving While Ability Impaired, which is not considered a drunk driving violation.

Timberlake will pay a fee as part of the agreement, which will be decided during a hearing. The precise amount will be between $300 and $500. Despite the legal decision, Timberlake’s refusal to submit to a Breathalyzer test when pulled over will result in a one-year suspension of his driver’s license in New York.

The event started on June 18, when Timberlake was reportedly pulled over in Sag Harbor for running a stop sign and not staying on the proper side of the road. Timberlake maintained that he had only had one martini, despite the police alleging he had failed sobriety tests.

Prosecutors chose the lesser charge despite body cam evidence of the arrest, believing it to be fair or realizing the difficulties in conducting a trial. In the end, Timberlake escapes harsher punishments by only receiving a very minor traffic infraction.
