Hip-hop entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs was taken into custody by the FBI in Manhattan on September 16th, after to an indictment by a grand jury.
U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said, “Earlier this evening, federal agents arrested Sean Combs, based on a sealed indictment filed by the SDNY,” while the specific accusations are yet unknown. We will have more to say when we move to unseal the indictment in the morning.”
Marc Agnifilo, Diddy’s lawyer, voiced dissatisfaction with the charges and referred to the prosecution as “unjust.”
He went on to say that Diddy had cooperated with the inquiry, saying, “He voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges.”
Online, memes and remarks have been made in response to Diddy’s imprisonment, drawing comparisons between the former musician R. Kelly and Diddy.
musician who is presently incarcerated on federal counts of sex trafficking.
“R Kelly waiting,” one person wrote. Others followed up with remarks along the same lines, “R. Kelly seeing Diddy in the lunch line” and “THEY FINALLY GOT HIM.”
Additional responses that made fun of the timing of Diddy’s arrest were “Homecoming 2024” and “The party is over.”
After spending several weeks at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan, Diddy was brought into federal detention.
He is a “loving family man” and philanthropist, according to his attorney, who also said that although he is “an imperfect person,” he is “not a criminal.”
The federal raids on Diddy’s properties in Miami and Los Angeles earlier this year may have something to do with the charges he faces.
During searches of his properties in March, Homeland Security investigators found firearms and electronic gadgets. According to reports, the raids were connected to ongoing investigations into claims of illicit firearms and drugs, sex trafficking, and sexual assault.
Since November 2023, Diddy has been the target of several lawsuits, including one from his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and others from Adria English, the star of adult films, and former partner Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones. Diddy has refuted every allegation.
