Texas AG sues TikTok for allegedly violating child safety law

Attorney General Ken Paxton of Texas has launched a lawsuit against TikTok, claiming that the social media company has broken the Securing Children Online through Parental Empowerment Act (SCOPE), the state’s recently passed child safety legislation.

Paxton asserts that TikTok has broken the law, especially with regard to how company has handled children’ sensitive information.

The lawsuit contends that TikTok’s “Family Pairing” tool, which enables parents to keep an eye on and manage their kids’ accounts, is insufficient.

According to Paxton’s office, the function offers kids too much choice over whether to enable parental supervision and fails to properly verify the identification of parents or guardians.

The lawsuit claims that TikTok improperly discloses minors’ names, usernames, and profile photos without getting the required parental authorization.

The “October theory” on TikTok has also been gaining popularity, with users proposing that the month brings about big life changes, unexpected turns, and a feeling of rejuvenation.

Many people say that October inspires changes in both personal and professional spheres of life, almost like a second New Year.

Influencers that have a large following, including Macy Morgan and Chloe Evan Berkel, have discussed why they believe the month is so important.

The verdict in this case may establish important guidelines for internet corporations about their obligations to safeguard children’s online privacy.
