At least 61 killed in 48 hours as Israeli airstrikes continue across Gaza Strip

According to Palestinian medical sources, Israeli forces clashed with fighters commanded by Hamas during the course of the last 48 hours, resulting in at least 61 deaths from Israeli airstrikes throughout the Gaza Strip. Eleven months into the conflict, countless diplomatic attempts have not resulted in a truce or the release of foreign and Israeli hostages detained by Hamas in Gaza.

Two former schools in Gaza City and Jabalia that had been housing displaced people were among the targets of the Israeli attacks. At least twelve persons are said to have died as a result of these hits.

According to the Israeli military, the targets of these strikes were Hamas gunmen who were inside the compounds. An further five people perished in an airstrike on a home in

Gaza City, increasing the number of fatalities to 28 on Saturday.

Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Fatah are among the Palestinian resistance organizations that have reported using explosives meant for Israeli tanks and military vehicles, mortar bombs, and anti-tank rockets against Israeli soldiers.

The two parties persisted in assigning blame to one other for the mediation efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the US that failed to bring about a truce.

The US is about to put up a fresh proposal, but as long as there are major differences, there is little hope for a settlement. Leading US negotiator and CIA Director William Burns disclosed at a London gathering that a more detailed proposal would be made available in the next few days.

Tens of thousands of protestors descended into Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities, demanding that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his administration broker a solution that would guarantee the release of the remaining 101 hostages.

The discovery of six hostages who had been killed by Hamas in a Gaza tunnel last Saturday sparked this surge of protests. The hostages were shot in the head, according to Israeli authorities, and their deaths caused a great deal of grief and indignation.

Matan’s mother, Einav Zangauker, was furious, saying that “as long as Netanyahu is in power, we will keep getting the hostages back in body bags.” Matan was taken by Hamas from his home in the Nir Oz kibbutz.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken pushed Israel and Hamas to compromise in order to come to a ceasefire agreement on Thursday. Reiterating its support for a proposal sponsored by the United States, Hamas, which has dominated Gaza for almost 20 years and was behind the October 7 bombing in Israel that started the current conflict, said that it would adhere to it by July 2.

Hossam Badran, a senior Hamas leader, claimed that Netanyahu was imposing new conditions while the group had not made any new demands. Netanyahu, meanwhile, insists that the unacceptable criteria were introduced by Hamas.

The most recent flare-up in the protracted Israeli-Palestinian conflict began on October 7 with a Hamas onslaught on Israel that claimed 1,200 lives, the bulk of them civilians, and resulted in the kidnapping of about

Despite the fact that health professionals believe the majority of the casualties have been civilians, the Palestinian Health Ministry does not distinguish between combatants and civilians in their casualty reports. Israel believes that fighters make up at least a third of the Palestinian losses; Israel has lost 340 soldiers in Gaza.

anti-polio campaign

Following the discovery of the first incidence of polio in the area in about 25 years, the United Nations, working with local health officials, launched a campaign to vaccinate 640,000 children in Gaza throughout the ongoing hostilities.

Limited breaks have allowed the immunization program to continue despite the obstacles caused by the war. UN representatives stated that over half of the youngsters in the central and southern Gaza Strip had received their vaccines effectively.

The second round of vaccines is slated to take place four weeks after the first dose, and the campaign is expected to spread to northern Gaza on Sunday.
