Only a few months prior to the recent allegations of marital problems, Ben Affleck was very forthright about his relationship with Jennifer Lopez.
In Lopez’s new documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, the 51-year-old actor highlighted the adjustments he made to avoid the difficulties they faced in the early 2000s.
He thought back, “The amount of scrutiny surrounding our private life was the catalyst for Jen and I’s previous breakup. I had a very firm sense of boundaries, around the press, at first.”
The Good Will Hunting actor subsequently attributed their 2004 breakup to media pressure and intended to handle their restored romance in a different way in 2021.
“Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media,” he stated after they reconciled. “And then I realized that asking isn’t really fair. It seems like you’re going to marry a captain of a boat and then declare, “Well, I don’t like the water.”
“We’re just two people with different approaches, trying to learn to,” he said compromise.”
The Oscar winner also talked about his early reservations about taking part in This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, directed by Lopez. He expressed his appreciation for the endeavor in the end, saying, “The movie wasn’t about me.” It had to do with being able to love oneself. And finding that fairy tale of love is far, far more difficult than finding Prince Charming.
This open conversation came up again in the midst of rumors that Affleck and Lopez are getting divorced. Lopez “liked” an Instagram post that highlighted signs of an unstable relationship and Affleck’s absence from the 2024 Met Gala, which Lopez co-chaired, which heightened rumors, according to Page Six.
