Bruno Mars becomes the new face of Japan’s Don Quixote with vibrant ad campaign

Global superstar Bruno Mars has landed a new job as the face of Don Quixote, or Donki as it’s called locally in Japan, a chain of popular discount stores. The August 20 campaign has Mars dancing to a lively house rhythm alongside Donki’s renowned blue penguin mascot, Donpen. In the ad, four dancers accompany Mars as he makes his way through the neon-lit aisles of Donki’s main shop in Shibuya.

In the opening scene of the commercial, Mars and his dance group are shown grabbing the store’s well-known “Jonetsu Kakaku” (passionately priced) merchandise while swaying to the catchphrase “Donki Ikuyo” (Let’s Go to Donki). The vibrant and lively environment, which draws inspiration from Japan’s colorful festivals, heightens the thrilling vibe. In addition, Mars and Donpen dance in unison, resulting in an amazing and energetic show that crosses the boundaries between a music video and a regular commercial.

In addition to appearing in the commercial, Bruno Mars, who has previously declared his love for Japan, was heavily involved in the production of the video and the jingle. Mars expressed his sincere enthusiasm for the endeavor by saying, “This is just me buying snacks at my favorite store in Japan.” “Lucky for us, the cameras happened to be rolling.”

The partnership will also include a limited-edition merchandise line that will be available at Donki stores in late September, in addition to the commercial. Hoodies, T-shirts, tote bags, and even a Donpen version modeled like Bruno Mars will be available to fans, giving the campaign a collectible feel.
