Saad bin Zafar, the captain of Canada, plans to apply pressure to the Pakistani team in their third game of the T20 World Cup 2024 in New York, believing that “anything is possible”.
The Canadian team has only won once in its two games, as they lost to the USA squad before pulling off an incredible victory in New York versus Ireland.
Furthermore, the team’s captain is expected to keep up the strong play if they are to survive in their quest for the World Cup Super 8.
Simultaneously, the Pakistani squad suffered defeats in both of their games, failing to reach the objective of 120 runs against India on Sunday after losing to the United States in the tournament’s opening match.
Interestingly, they would be eliminated from the competition with a loss on Tuesday.
Speaking ahead of their encounter against Pakistan, Saad said that everyone in the Canadian camp is in a high mood because the team’s last game against Ireland went “really well.”
“Everyone is feeling upbeat. We had a great game last night,” Saad stated, as reported by The Canadian Press. “It gave us the confidence that, on our day, we can defeat any opponent if we play good cricket.”
He also acknowledged that although Pakistan is a strong squad, their recent performance hasn’t been great, which they would want to take advantage of by applying pressure early in the game.
“I know that we are coming up against quite a high-ranked and well-experienced team in Pakistan but the reality is lately they haven’t been playing the good brand of cricket that they’re known for,” he said.
“They are being exploited. They have two games lost.
Therefore, everything is conceivable if we can play excellent cricket that day and apply some strong pressure early on in the contest.”
