China urges US to stop using Taiwan as tool to contain China

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson on Tuesday urged the United States to earnestly abide by its commitments of not using Taiwan as a tool to contain China, and stop hollowing out the one-China principle.

At a daily press briefing, spokeswoman Wang Wenbin responded to a question regarding US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s “congratulations” to the new head of the Taiwan region.

The United States has committed itself politically to preserving solely cultural, commercial, and other informal links with the Taiwan region, and what it has done gravely violates both the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques. This gives separatist forces pursuing “Taiwan independence” a very bad signal. Wang stated that China regrets and opposes it and has made significant comments to the US.

In the globe, there is only one China. An unalienable portion of China’s territory is Taiwan. He emphasized that the Taiwan issue is the first red line in China-US relations that cannot be crossed and that it is at the very center of China’s fundamental interests.

“China firmly opposes official interaction in any form between Taiwan and the United States and opposes US interference in Taiwan affairs in any form or under any pretext,” said a spokeswoman.

Wang said that China is pleading with the United States to immediately acknowledge its wrongdoing, follow through on President Joe Biden’s pledge to oppose “Taiwan independence,” “two Chinas,” or “one China, one Taiwan,” and to refrain from using Taiwan as a tool to contain China. It also wants the United States to stop eroding and undermining the one-China principle, stop arming and supporting separatist forces advocating for “Taiwan independence” in any way, and cease upsetting the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

“Taiwan independence” is a dead end, and anyone who helps and encourages it is bound for failure. The march toward China’s reunification cannot be stopped by outside intervention. He said that China will respond resolutely to any attempt to undermine the one-China concept and jeopardize its territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

In response to a related query, Wang said the facts and evidence on the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities’ “dollar diplomacy” with Guatemala are clear and solid.
Guatemala’s former president openly admitted that he had received bribery from the Taiwan authorities in exchange for maintaining so-called “diplomatic relations” with Taiwan, he said, adding that last year, Taiwan’s hospital project in Guatemala was involved in a corruption case. Relevant Guatemalan officials were put into jail.
Taiwan’s “foreign affairs department” recently released a statement objecting to the mainland’s criticism of Taiwan authorities for bribing Guatemalan officials and leaders in return for political support.

Wang stated in response to a related question that there is substantial and unambiguous proof of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities’ “dollar diplomacy” with Guatemala.

The former president of Guatemala claimed, “Last year, Taiwan’s hospital project in Guatemala was involved in a corruption case,” and he freely acknowledged that he had accepted bribes from Taiwan authorities in exchange for maintaining what he called “diplomatic relations” with Taiwan. Relevant officials from Guatemala were jailed.

Wang pointed out, “This is just one instance of the Taiwan authorities’ ‘dollar diplomacy.’ Regardless of how fiercely they protest or attempt to deny it, the fact that they used ‘dollar diplomacy’ to obtain political support will not change.”

183 nations worldwide have diplomatically connected with China. That demonstrates the pointlessness and deceitfulness of the DPP authorities’ reckless pursuit of “Taiwan independence” and secession. Wang stated that no matter what the DPP authorities do, the one-China ideal will remain unwavering and the irresistible momentum toward China’s reunification will not be impeded.
