By using a series of AI-generated postings on his Truth Social account to falsely claim Taylor Swift’s backing, Donald Trump has stirred some controversy. On August 18, 2024, Trump posted a phony news piece and a number of pictures that purportedly showed Swift was in favor of his 2024 presidential candidacy.
One of the pictures included Swift Photoshopped into an Uncle Sam costume, with the caption, “TAYLOR WANTS YOU TO VOTE FOR DONALD TRUMP.” Another AI-generated picture showed ladies wearing t-shirts that said, “Swifties for Trump.” “I accept!” is how Trump captioned the collage, implying that the pop artist had given his permission.
In the forthcoming election, Swift has not endorsed a single presidential contender. “The change we need most is to elect a president who recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included,” she said in 2020, endorsing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, according to V Magazine. She has also taken issue with Trump’s comments about white supremacists and how he handled the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an interview for “Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass,” earlier this year, Trump questioned Swift’s political views, expressing amazement that a country music icon could be liberal.
