Elon Musk’s SpaceX launches 20 more Starlink satellites

Tuesday night saw the launch of a second batch of Starlink internet satellites by tech billionaire Elon Musk’s Space X company, including 13 that can offer direct access to cellphones.

On June 5, at 10:16 p.m., the Starlink spacecraft blasted off from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station atop a Falcon 9 rocket.

The first stage of the Falcon 9 returned to Earth as scheduled and touched down on the SpaceX droneship around 8.5 minutes after launch.

According to the SpaceX mission description, this was the 20th launch and landing of the rocket. Last month, the company launched Starlink, setting a record for reuse.

Thirteen of the Starlink satellites that Space X claims were launched on Tuesday have direct-to-cell capabilities, meaning that they will offer “seamless access to text, voice, and data for LTE phones across the globe.”

About 52 minutes after liftoff, the upper stage of the Falcon 9 sent the 20 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit.

As of now in 2024, SpaceX has completed 58 orbital missions, 41 of which have been committed to growing the enormous and rapidly growing Starlink megaconstellation.
