According to Gaza’s civil defense service, an IDF airstrike on a tent camp in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, has resulted in at least 40 deaths and 60 wounded in the most recent intensification of Israel’s onslaught on Gaza.
A humanitarian area intended for displaced Palestinians was the target of the attack.
The camp, which had grown to be a haven for tens of thousands of people, sustained severe damage, with over twenty tents destroyed and three deep holes.
Claiming that Hamas operatives were utilizing the humanitarian facility for military objectives, the Israeli military said that the airstrike was directed for a Hamas command center located within the camp.
Hamas, on the other hand, has categorically refuted these allegations, calling them “blatant lies.”
According to the group, the airstrike was a planned attack.
According to the official, there are still 15 missing people being recovered from the debris.
Although Israeli authorities had previously declared the camp to be a safe zone, there has been intermittent military activity there throughout the conflict.
This tragedy brings to light the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, where the ongoing battles have seriously damaged services and infrastructure.
More than 41,000 Palestinians have died as a result of Israel’s horrific attack, and the area has seen acute shortages of food, water, and medical supplies.
Most of Gaza’s 2.4 million inhabitants, according to UN estimates, have been relocated at least once during the fighting.
Talks are still stuck, though, because of a number of major issues, such as Israel’s insistence on keeping a military presence along the Gaza-Egypt border and Hamas’s demand for an Israeli departure from Gaza.
In addition, Israel is the target of a case brought by South Africa to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), alleging that Israel violated the Genocide Convention while waging war on Gaza.
