DC’s highly anticipated Suicide Squad Isekai anime, which premiered in June, will not feature the Joker as prominently as some fans might have hoped.
Although the Suicide Squad has gained significant popularity, partly due to Harley Quinn’s prominence, the Joker remains a pivotal character in DC lore.
Despite heavy marketing suggesting a substantial role for the Joker, series director Eri Osada confirmed that his presence would be restrained.
In an interview with CBR, Osada explained, โI was told to feature the Joker a bit more,โ but added that this was not feasible due to the constraints of the storyline. The decision was made to ensure a balanced portrayal of both the Joker and Harley Quinn.
This approach mirrors past attempts to balance the Joker’s impact, as seen in David Ayerโs Suicide Squad film and various Batman-related media.
While the Joker’s role is limited, the anime is still receiving positive feedback for its adaptation of the DC team. Suicide Squad: Isekai is available for streaming on Max and Hulu in the US.
