Nancy Tyagi, a fashion influencer from Delhi who is well-known for her do-it-yourself versions of pop-culture and celebrity outfits, had a dazzling appearance this week at the Cannes Film Festival. The social media celebrity, who came from a lowly beginning, has made it to one of the world’s largest film festivals. She used an amazing 1000 meters of fabric to create her own floor-length ruffled gown, which she wore on the red carpet. It took thirty days to finish this labor of love, which weighed more than twenty kilograms.
Nancy uploaded photos of herself wearing the gown during the 77th Cannes Film Festival to Instagram to share her experience walking the red carpet. She pondered the weird aspect of her voyage in her caption, writing, “It feels surreal to walk the red carpet as a debutant at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. I put everything I had into making this pink gown. Although the journey has been difficult, every minute has been worthwhile.”
“I’m overwhelmed with joy and gratitude for the love and support from all of you,” she continued as she conveyed her gratitude. This is a dream come true, and I sincerely hope you are as amazed by my invention as I have been motivated by your support.
The blush pink gown was expertly fashioned with layers of tiered ruffles forming the skirt and long train, a strapless silhouette, and a sequinned corseted bodice. Nancy made a stunning debut by accessorizing her outfit with sheer pink opera gloves, a delicate necklace, matching earrings, a bracelet, and a statement ring.
The influencer chose a more conventional second look, dressing in a mauve saree with elaborate hand embroidery. Using an Instagram reel, Nancy provided a behind-the-scenes peek at the creation of her second original work. “My second outfit from the Cannes Film Festival, which I wrote at a special event,” the caption said. “It’s another creation that I made entirely myself.” I took great care in crafting and assembling each component.
The video showcased the influencer visiting cloth markets in India, handpicking fabrics for the piece and sewing them together until it became the stunning ensemble seen at Cannes.
While the influencer is being praised for her impeccable eye for fashion and design skills, she is also being lauded by netizens for giving a red-carpet interview in her native tongue. Nancy spoke in Hindi throughout the entire interview, with the help of a translator. An Instagram user commented, โShe just nailed it! And proud of the fact that she spoke in her native tongue and had someone translate it.โ Another wrote, โSpeaking Hindi! Extremely proud of her.โ
