NCA scandal case: Bushra Bibi’s ‘no confidence’ on judge leads to no testimony of witnesses

At Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Friday, during the £190 million NCA corruption case hearing, there were unexpected scenes as Bushra Bibi, the wife of incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, showed her lack of trust in the judge of the accountability court.

Bushra Bibi approached the rostrum at the start of the hearing and said she didn’t trust the judge of the accountability court.

The former first lady entered the courtroom in an unpleasant manner as the accountability court got started, and she sat apart from the former prime minister, his sisters, and her daughters.

She later approached the rostrum and informed the judge that she had no confidence in this court or in the judges who had heard earlier cases. She said that she was not notified that there will be a hearing in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on May 15.

The hearing scheduled on May 15 has been postponed, the judge said.

Bushra Bibi continued by claiming that she was imprisoned because of “injustice” rather than being a prisoner in the NCA scandal case.

Following Bushra’s speech, Imran approached the rostrum and asked his partner to accompany him to the family section.

She didn’t even get to know her daughters, who were seated close to Imran’s sisters, though. When her girls were assigned a separate room, she finally met them.

The PTI founder continued to move closer his attorneys, wife, sisters, and other attorneys throughout the session. He was also frequently observed whispering to his spouse.

In an attempt to persuade Bushra Bibi to retract her statement that she didn’t trust the judge, the former prime minister and his attorneys asked the accountability court for more time. The attorneys requested three stops to the hearing.

Following extensive deliberations, Imran and his attorneys informed the judge to retract his words expressing a lack of faith. In addition, they entered a plea in answer to yesterday’s court papers and begged the judge to hold the next hearing in 15 days.

The hearing was subsequently postponed until May 22 by the court without any of the witnesses giving testimony today.

Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail, PTI attorney Naeem Panjutha verified that Bushra Bibi had complained during today’s hearing about a tedious trial and that he didn’t trust the court.

According to him, the PTI founder insisted on having his medical examinations done at Shaukat Khanum Hospital. Panjutha claimed that the physicians at Pims had created fictitious “self-generated reports” including the former premier who was in jail.

Additionally, he attested to the fact that Bushra Bibi had declined to allow Pim’s doctors to examine her.

The attorney asserted that a fresh reference against Imran is intended by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

In the previous event, on Wednesday, the PTI founder’s bail petition in the £190 million NCA settlement case was allowed by the Islamabad High Court (IHC). In exchange for a one million rupee surety bail, the high court allowed the freedom of the PTI founder.

NCA controversy
The NAB filed a £190 million NCA reference against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and other individuals in December of last year.

Zulfi Bukhari, Mirza Shehzad Akbar, Farhat Shezadi (Farah Gogi), and other individuals are included as additional accused in the reference.

According to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999, which defines and punishes corruption and corrupt conduct, the accused parties in collusion with one another have committed the offense.
