Netflix’s ‘The Perfect Couple’ Review: A gripping finale can’t salvage a dull start

Based on Elin Hilderbrand’s book, “The Perfect Couple,” Netflix’s newest mystery series, with an engrossing climax that is both satisfying and startling. The cast of the program is outstanding and includes Meghann Fahy, Eve Hewson, and Nicole Kidman. But getting to that exciting finish is a long, meandering road full of well-known clichรฉs and characters who are afraid of speaking for themselves.

The murder that occurs during a sumptuous wedding weekend on Nantucket serves as the show’s focal point. The investigation is directed on the affluent Winbury family, which is headed by the mysterious Greer (Kidman). Viewers are left guessing right up to the very end as secrets are revealed and relationships are put to the test.

The six-episode series feels slow and cliched, even though the climax is unquestionably engaging. The show struggles to establish its own distinct personality and frequently references other well-known television programs, such as “Big Little Lies” and “The White Lotus.”

With exceptional performances from Dakota Fanning as the delectably wicked Abby and Donna Lynne Champlin as the astute Detective Henry, the gifted ensemble gives the subject its best shot. The characters, however, are frequently one-dimensional as a result of the six-hour plot requirement.

In the end, “The Perfect Couple” gets its feet and embraces its fun, campy side in the conclusion. However, the route to get there is arduous and full of lost chances and unrealized potential.

For its exciting ending, “The Perfect Couple” might be worth a watch if you enjoy convoluted murder mysteries and don’t mind a slow burn. However, you might want to pass on this series if you’re searching for something new and unique.
