According to former Pakistan cricket team director Mohammad Hafeez, the Green Shirts are “not ready” for the next T20 World Cup 2024 and would struggle.
On Friday, he spoke with a local television channel and made these remarks. The former cricket player discussed the mentality of the Pakistani team.
โThe only reason behind that is they are not ready in terms of the right formation and the mindset. Also, their roles are not defined yet like a controlled team,โ he added.
However, the former captain selected Pakistan as one of the T20 World Cup semi-finalists despite his assertion that Babar Azam and Co. would struggle in the tournament.
โI would say the same thing again, if I were to say what my heart wants, I would pick Pakistan first. If I consider tactics and right formation then I think India can perform better in the West Indies.
“Look, no matter how well Pakistan does, as a Pakistani, my heart will always be on their side. However, given the circumstances, I believe the Pakistani team would face difficulties, Hafeez stated.
“The only explanation for that is that they lack the proper mindset and formation. In addition, they do not yet have clearly defined roles as in a managed team, he said.
Nevertheless, the former skipper chose to include Pakistan among the T20 World Cup semifinalists, even though he predicted that Babar Azam and company will have difficulty competing.
If I had to state again what my heart truly desires, I would say that Pakistan comes first.
