Prince Harry, Meghan Markle welcome new controversy ahead of wedding anniversary

As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle prepare to celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary, they are being criticized by the public.

Following their acceptance of two complimentary private aircraft during their trip to Nigeria, the pair is being accused of even more hypocrisy. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with a few friends, took a 664-mile round-trip flight aboard a 120-seat aircraft operated by Nigerian airline Air Peace, according to Mirror.

On May 12, the trip back from Abuja to Lagos resulted in almost 12 tons of carbon emissions; in comparison, the average yearly global carbon footprint is about four tonnes per person.

Known for their efforts to combat climate change, Harry and Meghan started the Travalyst project in 2019 to promote sustainability in the travel and tourism sector.

When the Sussexes traveled to Nigeria for three days to commemorate Harry Potter’s Invictus Games turning ten, Stanley Olisa of Air Peace gave an explanation of how they got the complimentary flights.

“The planes were chartered,” he declared. Only the royal family and their retinue were present. They weren’t traveling with any other people. We treated them like royalty because we recognized that they were.

“There were maybe 15 or 20 of us on the flight,” stated Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, director of sports for the Nigerian Defence Headquarters, who was traveling with Harry and Meghan on the 42-meter Embraer E195-E2.

“As part of his contribution to the successful hosting of the couple,” stated Mr. Olisa, “the chairman of Air Peace gave free flights to Lagos and back to Prince Harry and his wonderful wife Meghan.” We found that the current price per person for a round-trip scheduled Air Peace service is ยฃ321.

The Sussexes stopped by an Abuja secondary school to inaugurate a mental health event, while Harry engaged wounded servicemen in a game of seated volleyball during their tour.
