The actress, 23, has been subjected to a barrage of criticism ever since she was chosen to play Snow White in the upcoming live-action Disney production. Remarks she made on the 1937 original picture have drawn criticism from some fans.
Zegler, who has also acted in “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” and “Shazam!”, has not shied away from confronting internet trolls in spite of the criticism. She recently responded savagely to a person on Twitter who had threatened to kill her.
The message, which was later taken down for going against Twitter policy, said, “Someone should kill you.”
“Fun fact I will be dying eight times a week on Broadway this fall!!!!!!” was Zegler’s response. Lee [the user’s handle] needs your tickets! Additionally, @/FBI.”
Her fans applauded her response, which witty alludes to Juliet’s death in the Shakespeare play.
“Promo queen,” tweeted one person, and “God, you’re such a champ,” added another. You’re managing this awful crap like a total queen, and I’m so sad you keep getting it.”
Zegler will play Juliet in a Broadway revival under Sam Gold’s direction, with music by Taylor Swift collaborator Jack Antonoff.
Disney, meanwhile, debuted the first official teaser for the live-action “Snow White” on August 9 at the D23 Expo.
Zegler dances with the seven dwarves and belts out the beloved song “Whistle While You Work” in the teaser.
