During a Q&A on Sunday, September 1 at the Telluride Film Festival, Selena Gomez recently talked about her unique singing experience in the upcoming film Emilia Perez.
The actor, who is 32 years old, said that she found her vocal performance in the movie to be both difficult and “therapeutic.”
Gomez revealed that the song “Mi Camino,” which features her character Jessi Del Monte, experienced a lot of adjustments while talking about her vocal technique. She revealed that the song’s initial version had “a bit more of a rough sound to it.”
But following extensive collaboration with singer-songwriter Camille, the song became “almost like a ballad.” Gomez underlined that the song developed into a lovely story about a woman’s journey through many phases of life.
Gomez said that her time in the studio was both joyful and taxing as she thought back on the hours she spent there. She emphasized the value of concentrating on the character’s limitations rather than depending just on her typical singing style.
“I had to try and, you know, mentally consider that these were the boundaries of my character that I could go,” she said. She described the practice as “really therapeutic,” enabling her to establish a close connection with the real substance of her character.
These revelations coincide with the debut trailer for the Spanish-language French film, which was released by Netflix on August 26. Karla Sofia Gascón plays a cartel boss who tries to stage her own death in Emilia Perez.
The film, which also stars Edgar Ramírez, Adriana Paz, and Zoe Saldaña, follows the travels of four Mexican ladies who are all pursuing their own kind of happiness.
On November 1, Emilia Perez will premiere in a few cinemas. On November 13, the film will be available on November 13 is the Netflix release date.
