For its fourth test towards space, SpaceX’s giant Starship was launched from south Texas on Thursday.
Surviving a blazingly hot re-entry through the Earthโs atmosphere is the main ambition of Elon Musk’s space corporation. During the Starship’s last attempt, it was the same intensive phase where the rocket broke apart, reportedย Reuters.
Launched from the space company’s Starbase launch pad in Boca Chica Village on Texas’ Gulf Coast, the two-stage spacecraft featured the Starship cruise ship atop its imposing Super Heavy rocket booster.
It’s the most recent test mission in Elon Musk’s company’s test-to-failure rocket development campaign. SpaceXย Starship Attempts Fourth Launch
Before exploding or disintegrating in the atmosphere, every starship rocket has exceeded the testing objectives of its predecessors.
Minutes after liftoff some 40km (25 miles) above ground, the rocketโs first launch in April 2023 exploded. Moreover, Starship reached space for the first time but exploded soon after during the next attempt in November.
As the starship attempted to return from space halfway around the globe, it made it much farther and broke apart in Earthโs atmosphere in its most recent flight in March.
The rocket will fly again on Thursday, but its goal is to travel farther than it did in its previous test.
The rocket system’s first stage, “Super Heavy,” fired its 33 Raptor engines in order to take off. After that, it was supposed to split off from the Starship’s second stage and launch itself farther into space.
