The greatest upset in Twenty20 cricket history was achieved by the USA cricket team on Tuesday when they defeated Bangladesh in the opening Twenty20 International in a three-match series at Prairie View in Houston.
The USA pulled off a huge shock in the faceoff, which was the two teams’ first international meeting.
Steven Taylor bowled frugal, stifling Bangladesh’s batting. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored three off eleven balls and Litton Das scored fourteen off fifteen balls, respectively. Despite hitting a rapid 20 from 13 balls, Soumya Sarkar was unable to build on his early success. After Shakib was dismissed early with a meagre 6, Bangladesh was 68-4 and in a vulnerable position.
But there was optimism thanks to a collaboration between Mahmudullah Riyad and Towhid Hridoy. In 47 balls, they put up a 67-run stand. Hridoy held his ground and scored an important fifty. Bangladesh managed to register a commendable total of 153 thanks to their efforts.
When the USA began their inning, they responded forcefully. Even though Steven Taylor was having trouble keeping up his early pace, Andries Gous managed to hit 33 off just 18 balls. The collaboration between Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh in the last overs, though, was the true game-changer. From the final four overs, they needed to score 56 runs. The USA achieved their goal thanks to Singh’s brilliant 33 off 13 balls and Anderson’s 34 off 25 balls.
The USA cricket team achieved a historic occasion when they defeated a full national Test side by a margin of five wickets.
