The Batman 2 director Matt Reeves has given a noteworthy update on the filming of the movie.
With respect to the eagerly awaited sequel to the Robert Pattinson-starring 2022 DC movie, Reeves revealed that “the plan is to shoot next year” and that “the script is being finished now.”
Additionally, Reeves revealed to SFX Magazine (via Deadline) that “Colin [Farrell] will be part of the movie.” The actor from Penguin is one of the participants. “We’ve shared [the script] as we’ve been moving along with DC and the studio, and they’re really excited,” the speaker said.
He made hints that the upcoming Penguin TV show is “absolutely connected to where we leave things in the series” and will act as a “entry point” for the upcoming movie.
“There are specifics that genuinely link directly to how the next film opens, and how Oz enters that world as we return the baton to Batman, who is working on a different case,” he clarified.
Reeves added, “It’s such a brutal place and we’re digging for the answers as to why these people’s lives are this way,” expressing his desire for “these stories to be a meditation on the way Gotham is the way it is.”
“It goes into places that he couldn’t anticipate in the first one,” he said, elaborating on the epic plot of deeper corruption in The Batman 2.
This information comes after star Andy Serkis stated in June that the sequel’s development is anticipated to start in 2025, implying that the film’s premiere may not occur until mid-2026.
“Basically, I know nothing about the movie other than that I’ve just found out that we’re probably likely to be starting filming early next year,” he remarked (via Popverse). “Therefore, if you do the math, it’ll be a year and a half after that.”
